Community Arts Education

The mission of GCAC's Community Arts Education Program is to provide programs, information, education, and hands-on opportunities for the benefit of young people and professional educators in Columbus.

Artists-in-Schools

The Artists-in-Schools program, begun in 1976, is one of GCAC's longest running programs. Since its inception, thousands of children and adults have benefited from the skills, talents, and expertise of artists in a variety of disciplines.

Artists-in-Schools links schools (K-12), parks and recreation centers, senior homes, correctional facilities, corporations, hospitals, libraries and community centers with the city's professional arts resources. Artist services may include performances, lectures, workshops, master classes, readings and multi-disciplinary experiences. Each artist/group sets its own fee for its services.

A total of 558 Artists-in-Schools activities were conducted in 2005, featuring 86 different artists in K-12 schools and non-school venues, reaching a cumulative total of 111,644 people, including 104,853 K-12 students. The Columbus Public Schools scheduled approximately 110 of these activities, benefiting a cumulative total of 26,207 students. The program reached 6,791 people through activities in non- K-12 school venues (i.e., senior centers, businesses, recreation centers, pre-schools, etc.) in 2005.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Franklin County Commissioners.
