The GCAC/City of Columbus Grants Program’s goal is to maximize funding for Columbus arts organizations and artists through the responsible administration of a grants program, to increase funds available for that program and to provide technical assistance aimed at increasing the level of artistic and management skills among our constituency.
There were three new applicants (MadLab Theatre, Ohio Designer Craftsmen and the Wexner Center for the Arts) and one returning applicant (CATCO) to Operating Support this year, for a total of 19 organizations applying. For the first time, the GCAC Grants Committee reviewed Operating Support applications publicly. Awards totaling $2,599,998 were allocated to all 19 organizations; however, the decision to fund the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in the amount of $245,088 was deferred until a final resolution between management and the musicians was reached. This agreement was reached in September, and 75 percent of the grant was awarded for 2008-09.
