Columbus, Ohio - Join the Greater Columbus Arts Council and enjoy a variety of music and poetry performances at the Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable, June 5, 6 and 7 in downtown's Discovery District.
Twenty-one bands will take the main stage located in the Columbus State Community College parking lot during the three-day Festival. Also back this year is the Ohio Magazine Poetry Corner located under the CCAD Art sculpture. The Poetry Corner will feature 21 artists performing their original work. The Topiary Garden at East Town and Washington avenues will host a children's theater performance of the Tales of Brer Rabbit and the Bitty Buzzard Jug Band.
This year's Main Stage will feature live performances throughout the day by popular local acts including The Fabulous Johnson Brothers, The Floorwalkers and Lone Raven. Other artists in this year's lineup include everything from the fused blues hip-hop trio Blue Level to retro oldies players The Randy's.
The Ohio Magazine Poetry corner will feature local and regional poets including Louise Robertson, Mikelle Hickman-Romine and Ed Plunkett. Saturday evening the Writer's Block Poetry forum will host an interactive Poetry Slam. Ten poets will perform for and be judged by audience members. Sunday, students from TRANSIT ARTS and the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Art in the House program will present their poetry.
The west side of the Topiary Garden in Old Deaf School Park will be the backdrop for children's theater performances of Tales of Brer Rabbit and the Bitty Buzzard Jug Band. Local children from different areas of the city will perform the play throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. The Topiary Garden is a work of art itself recreating Georges Seurat's famous post impressionist painting, A Sunday On The Island Of La Grande Jatte in topiaries.
