Columbus, Ohio - The Greater Columbus Arts Council elected four new Board of Trustee members and a new Board Executive Committee at its June meeting, GCAC announced today. Additionally, Bryan W. Knicely announced at the meeting that he is stepping down as President of the organization.

Knicely, President of GCAC since December of 2006, said at the meeting that he will leave the organization effective immediately; however, he will be available to help GCAC through its transition as needed. The Board plans to appoint an Interim President in the near future.

"Bryan joined GCAC at a difficult time for us following the death of former President Ray Hanley," said outgoing Board Chair DeeDee Glimcher. "During his tenure, Bryan made many positive contributions, and he helped develop a solid foundation for our future operations, including a five-year strategic plan, transforming our grant-making into an open peer-review process and opening communications with Columbus City Council, the Mayor's Office and the Franklin County Board of Commissioners."

An Ohio native, Knicely joined GCAC after serving as Assistant Director and Accessibility Coordinator for the Maine Arts Commission.

"We're pleased that Bryan has agreed to be available to GCAC as we move forward," Glimcher said.

"The past few years have been a big transition for GCAC," Knicely said. "I'm proud of what we were able to accomplish to get to this point. I wish the arts organizations and artists much success in the years ahead, and I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead of me."

Also at the meeting, the Board voted unanimously to appoint the following new members:

- Nick Akins, Executive Vice President-Generation at American Electric Power
- Karen Bell, Associate Vice President of the Arts Initiative at The Ohio State University
- William Faust, Partner and Chief Strategy Officer at Ologie
- Roberta Ruch, President and CEO of Acloché

Akins, Bell, Faust and Ruch will begin an initial one-year term in July. They will replace outgoing members Stephanie Hightower, Fredrik Marsh, Olga Lucia and Maryellen O'Shaughnessy.

Board members voted to renew terms for Milt Baughman, Willie Mayberry, Janelle Simmons, DeeDee Glimcher and Mary Jo Green.

The Board also elected a new Executive Committee: Mary Jo Green, Chair; Bob Falcone, Chair Elect; Marilyn Harris, Vice Chair; Eric Carmichael, Vice Chair; Milt Baughman, Treasurer; Janelle Simmons, Secretary; and DeeDee Glimcher, Immediate Past Chair.

GCAC is governed by a Board of Trustees of up to 26 members. Board members are nominated based on their community involvement, commitment to arts and culture, and ability to represent various viewpoints in the community.
