Grants & Services for Artists

The Greater Columbus Arts Council recognizes the vital role individual artists play in the community and the support they need to continue their work. As part of the GCAC/City of Columbus Grants Program, artists receive financial support through funds made available by the city of Columbus, which dedicates a portion of revenues from the hotel/motel tax for support of the Grants Program. Funding decisions are made on a non-political basis through a competitive system of application and review. Artists can receive support in two ways:

Individual Artists Fellowships

Our Fellowship program is one of the few in the country that provides direct support to artists on a local level. The Individual Artist Fellowship Program recognizes outstanding artists in Franklin County by awarding fellowships in varied artistic disciplines. Awards are offered in annual for visual arts and biannually for creative writing. Fellowships are periodically given in other disciplines, including playwriting, music composition, choreography/movement art and film/video.

Grants for Artists Projects

Artists may also apply for Project Support when a non-profit organization agrees to act as the fiscal agent for the project.

We also support individual artists through several programs outside of the Grants department:

Residency in Dresden

All past visual arts fellowship winners, as well as artists who reached the final round of consideration for visual arts fellowships within the previous year, are eligible to apply for a residency in Dresden, Germany, one of Columbus' sister cities.
