Artist Information

Shauna Merriman, b. Riverside, CA, is a sculpture, ceramic and installation artist who uses clay as a material for its geologic properties, often making works tied to local geography and exploring topics of personal and communal histories as they relate to constructions of identity. Currently, she has a studio practice in Mansfield, CT, where she teaches at the University of Connecticut. She received a BFA in Ceramics at the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University and an MFA from The Ohio State University.

"The residency changed the trajectory of my work, which now often develops in response to local populations, using local materials. In addition to working within a network of artists and community members in Dresden, the work continued to develop at home in Columbus, when the Dresden artists came as part of the exchange."
