This 21st century retelling of the yuletide classic delighted audiences with merriment, redemption and song last season. Ken Erney will return to play the coldest of misers – a Scrooge who delights in his own “Scroogeiness.” Playwright Patrick Barlow, “The 39 Steps,” created this adaptation from the novel written by Charles Dickens; his version features music and puppetry.
Described as “the best production” of this classic, the Columbus Civic Theater’s annual A Christmas Carol begins the first week in December. This year, Jim McCullough (Drama at Inish, The Miracle Worker) inhabits the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. The swift and seamless version of Charles Dicken’s novella has been adapted by noted American screenwriter Noel Langley and the American Shakespearean actor, Ben Gorman. As usual, beverages and confections are on the house, and this evening at the theater has something for everyone. Not to be missed!
DECEMBER 4, 2014 — DECEMBER 7, 2014

Join Lumos for the debut of new work by Alan Price; artist and designer of real time responsive computer animation and virtual environment installations. Other artist work includes Tyler Bohm’s laser cut wall sculptures, Lumos’ Curator Kayla Malone’s 3D pen-drawn sculptures, OSU’s David Staley and Matt Lewis’ 3D printed “Data Sculpture”, as well as select OSU Game Design students showcasing their final projects! Our in-house startups, Paint BiNumbers and LizzyPopTronics will also be exhibiting their work along with our new teams, imaekgames, showcasing their game “CubeZ” and FR introducing a demo of their game, “Light Knight”.
“ConstructAR”, by Alan Price, is an augmented reality mobile app for use by gallery visitors to collaboratively sculpt forms that appear located in the physical space. Tracking with the mobile devices creates the ability to move through and around the virtual objects while simultaneously observing the actions of other participants. Interaction is shared across a networked system, allowing participants to collaboratively build virtual sculpture that can potentially span across and envelop the interior space of the gallery.
As the last gallery hop of the year, expect some amazing work and purchasable art from Lumos! Also available for retail are small 3D printed stocking stuffers! Come experience interactive augmented realities and Tech The Halls with Lumos Columbus!
Almost 100 years ago, on Christmas Eve of the first year of World War I, German and British soldiers put down their guns and crossed no-man’s land with songs of peace and hope. In some places, soldiers shared laughs, games, supplies and gifts with their enemies for almost two days before the fighting resumed. In this time of worldwide conflict, The Dublin Singers wish to re-ignite the spirit of the Christmas Eve Truce with their Christmas Concert, “A Time for Peace”. Songs describing the peace, love and joy of the Christmas season will fill the air at the 3:00 pm concert on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at St. Brigid of Kildare Church (7179 Avery Road) in Dublin, Ohio.
Active duty military and veterans are invited to attend the concert for free, in honor of Pearl Harbor Day and the Christmas Eve Truce. For others, tickets will be available at the door, or by calling (614) 874-7322, at a cost of $10 for adults, and $7 for children (13 and under) and seniors (55 and over).
The Dublin Singers, with the support of the Dublin Arts Council and private patrons, has provided an opportunity for adults to make and share beautiful music with each other and with the greater Dublin community since 1996. The Singers are honored to be a regular part of many of Dublin’s community events, including Dublin’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, the Dublin Kiwanis Frog Jump, and the Dublin Irish Festival. Their spring show, “Magic Moments”, will be in early May, 2014, at the Dublin Abbey Theater. Please see their website at thedublinsingers.com or their facebook page for more information.
