2009 Community Arts Partnership Artists

Mary Ann Crago

Mary Ann Crago is a landscape painter, librarian. CCAD and Kent State graduate and a member of the Ohio Art League and Roy G Biv. Crago’s work is most inspired by simple forms found in nature; lanky stems, jewel-like pods and undulating tree lines. The most recent pieces showcase spindly seed pods against distant fading horizons. They are experiments in color and texture, exploring varying degrees of depth through simple composition and the manipulation of color and light. Acrylic paste is applied to create irregular surface textures and to disguise the repetitive woven texture of the canvas. Acrylic paint and gloss mediums are mixed to create transparent color, and the pieces evolve slowly as each veil of color is applied.
