Strong partnerships between businesses, community members and the arts stimulate economic growth, promote the city’s revitalization, encourage tourism and enhance Columbus’ cultural image. The Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Community Arts Partnership awards, now in their 26th year, recognize the community’s crucial contributions to the arts including financial support, non-cash contributions, volunteer involvement and board participation.
On Friday, March 6 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at COSI Columbus, GCAC will host civic, corporate and arts leaders for a luncheon, keynote speaker and presentation of the 2009 Community Arts Partnership awards, which will recognize three business and three individuals for outstanding support of local arts in the past year. Award categories include: Small Business, Medium Business, Large Business, Arts Educator (NEW!), Emerging Arts Leader (NEW!) and Arts Partner (NEW!).
GCAC will also present the annual Artistic Excellence Award, which carries a $10,000 prize, to a local arts organization that has demonstrated risk, innovation and artistic excellence within the past year.
Proceeds from this event will benefit GCAC’s educational programming for children, including our Art in the House and Artists-in-Schools programs. Corporate support of the arts is invaluable. But we also want to recognize the important work that individual community members do to sustain the arts in our community. Therefore, we’re introducing three new awards this year – the Arts Educator Award, the Emerging Arts Leader Award and the Arts Partner Award. GCAC will solicit nominations from the public for each of these awards. Award winners, who will be honored at the luncheon event along with our business winners, will be chosen by the GCAC board.
