Artist's Narrative

For over ten years the members of Vocal Impact have been sharing their unique presentation with audiences across central Ohio and beyond. One of the region's premier vocal jazz groups, their combination of intricate soulful harmonies, dynamic musical arrangements, and joyful energy have made them a favorite with audiences everywhere. Venues have included the Columbus Arts Festival, the Columbus Jazz and Ribs Fest, Sundays at Scioto, and standing gigs at various clubs and restaraunts, plus a host of private engagements.

Programs Available

Sing a Study in Jazz (Grade levels 6 - 12)

Vocal Impact (the three vocalists along with their pianist) sing their way through a musical jazz history lesson which includes "where did this music come from," "what makes the sound of vocal jazz unique," "building your jazz vocabulary," and "learning to speak the language of jazz."  This program will help introduce the sound of vocal jazz to young singers, as well as help teachers incorporate jazz music into their choral repetoire.  The presentation is designed for students in school music programs and larger groups.

• Requirements: Piano or keyboard if available; electrical outlet.

Sing a Study in Jazz: Workshop (Grade levels 6 - 12)

In this intensive workshop, the members of Vocal Impact will work with smaller groups, teach them a specific vocal jazz arrangement, and prepare it to present at a final performance with Vocal Impact for the school. This workshop is designed for small groups or school show choirs.

Activity Options:

Workshop and Presentation

• Duration: 1-2 hour rehearsal, 30 min.performance
• Fees: $1000
• Requirements: PA with at least four vocal microphones and amplification for the students (for the performance), as well as keyboard and piano if available.

Concert Performance (Grade levels 6-12)

One of the hottest jazz acts in the Midwest, Vocal Impact puts their mark on vocal jazz with their brand of tight harmonies, swingin' rhythms, and inventive vocalese lyrics.  Their unique versions of jazz and swing standards (with a few hints of gospel, R&B, and pop hits with a distinctive original flair) are sure to be a hit with your students. This entertaining program is perfect for end-of-semester parties, or other special school events. 

For this presentation the group is accompanied by piano, drums, and bass.
