Individual Classroom Lesson-Enhancement Program (Grade levels 1-12)

Folk music performance and the academic disciplines integrated with it are employed to enrich and expand curriculum in various subject areas. Presentations focus on themes like love, self-determination and universality, and corroborate specific studies like figurative language and narrative technique in balladry for English classes, ballads and songs showing Ohio history, the Underground Railroad, the 60's freedom movement, the cowboy legend, women in song, character education, et al, as well as reflecting historical events and figures for social-studies groups, and traditional vocal and instrumental styles and historical musical periods for music classes. Performances enable audiences to conclude that literature, social science, and music are integrated in this art form and reflect on the broader issues of life and human creativity. For elementary students, Hank performs Appalachian, Celtic, British, Afro-American, and other cultural musics in a highly-interactive, energetic manner while letting students see various instruments and participate in various music genres. Some songs teach pupils to speak foreign languages, to do math, to understand ethnic and historical movements, and to identify literary style while having fun.
