COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus have partnered to present the 2018 Choral Composition Fellowship.

The Choral Composition Fellowship Program provides an unrestricted $5,000 grant to an artist of outstanding talent and ability currently living in Franklin County. For the first time this year, the competition is open to MFA, MM and DMA graduate students enrolled in degree- or certificate-granting programs at Columbus-area academic institutions.

Compositions must be original, secular choral works created within the last three years, written for six-part divisi (subdivisions of different vocal sections) plus keyboard accompaniment.

The panel will consider the following criteria for awards:

  • Originality
  • Likelihood of future productions
  • Clarity of voice
  • Suitability for an advanced community choir
  • General interest in the subject matter

Choral composers are invited to submit original works by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1 for consideration. A cover letter and manuscript of the work should be submitted to tim@cgmc.com.
