COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC)  are proud announce the 2015 Columbus Composition Fellowship recipient: local composer Michael Rene Torres for his work I am the Autumnal Sun for chorus, oboe and piano.

The piece is set to the text from Henry David Thoreau’s poem by the same name, Torres said that this poem “metaphorically describes the emotion and physical changes of man in the transition between autumn and winter.”

As part of the 2015 Columbus Composition Fellowship, Torres’ piece will be performed by CGMC and premiered at the CGMC’s holiday concert Joy! Deck the Halls Dec. 11-13.

The 2015 Choral Composition Fellowship was a joint venture between the Arts Council and the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus to spotlight composers from the Franklin County area. The fellowship program was an adjudicated process, lead by CGMC Artistic Director, Timothy Sarsany, Ph.D., after which the recipient of the fellowship was awarded.
