The Cbus ArtWalks App 2.0 Released with New Features

in Press Releases July 18, 2022 2 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) just released the latest version of the Cbus ArtWalks App. The new version enables the user to filter by type of art such as murals and sculpture, and attributes such as street parking and ADA accessibility, making it even easier to find art to enjoy.

ArtWalks V2.0 also includes the ability to create a personal profile which users can customize and begin saving a gallery of favorite public art pieces. The app also now includes historic architecture alongside public art, as part of a partnership with Columbus Public Health to make the ArtWalks app the primary app for public art in Columbus.

The app still offers curated tours built around themes such as Landmark Sculptures by African American Artists and the Short North Temporary Mural Tour that were launched last fall. New tours will be added this summer. The tours can also be viewed at columbusmakesart.com/tours.

Using data from the Columbus Makes Art Public Art database launched in late 2019, the Cbus Art Walks app was developed in collaboration between the Arts Council and Can’t Stop Cbus, a community-wide volunteer effort launched in response to the pandemic. App programming was provided by Novvia.

The app guides residents and visitors to Columbus’ extensive collection of outdoor and indoor public art by enabling browsing by neighborhood or searching for art by title or artist name. Photos and descriptions of each of the more than 1,200 pieces of public art in central Ohio are included, as well as links to more information where available. The app also features a link to a form where people can help the database expand by suggesting the addition of new or missing art.

The Cbus ArtWalks App can be downloaded from both the Apple and Google for Android app stores. Direct download links are available at columbusmakesart.com/public-art.
