An Open Letter About the Big Give

If you’re reading this, my guess is you are a giver. As a person who cares about their community (near and far) hopefully you have heard about the Big Give and already have marked Oct. 10-11 on your calendar.

On the off chance you haven’t heard of this event, consider this a public service announcement—the more you know.

At its most basic, the Big Give is an event run by the Columbus Foundation that provides an opportunity to give your philanthropic dollars a boost.

All you have to do is make a donation to one or more of 800 participating nonprofits via the Big Give between 10 a.m. Oct. 10, and noon Oct. 11. One hundred percent of your donation will go to your selected nonprofit(s) and they will be eligible for additional funds from a bonus pool of more than $1 million.

One of the things that I love about the Big Give is that I can give to multiple organizations at once. As someone who is passionate about the arts and who knows that investing in the arts has a significant impact on our community, naturally I am going to donate to arts organizations and I hope you do too. However, there are many causes that I care about and many organizations whose work I passionately support. The Big Give offers me the opportunity to help more than one. With 800 nonprofits in their “Giving Store” easily organized by category, the only difficult part is choosing.

While I encourage everyone to give to the causes that speak to them, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind our friends about the need to support Columbus arts and cultural organizations.

Your gift will help make more arts experiences. For everyone.

Please consider giving to your favorite local arts and cultural organizations during the Big Give Oct. 10-11.  Or, if you can’t decide on just one arts organization, consider making your donation to the Greater Columbus Arts Council. It is an act of giving that will only take you minutes but will have a lasting impact on our community.
