Caution: Artists at Play

Cynthia Catlin

Sewing and quilting gained my interest at the early age of 13 when I started sewing clothes and saved all the scraps. I began hand piecing the scraps into quilt tops under the guidance and direction of my maternal grandparents. I credit my grandmother for helping me develop my accurate piecing methods and my grandfather for giving me a wonderful sense of color. My grandparents were prolific quilters and as far back as I can remember a quilt was always in some stage of creative development. I am a native of Dayton, Ohio and received my Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio in 1979. After working for many years in the corporate world as a Marketing Executive, I retired to pursue my calling as a full-time quilt artist. I have been blessed to have my work featured in numerous exhibits and publications. I currently reside in Dayton, Ohio with my supportive husband.

Quilting gives me the joy of continuing the legacy of my ancestors, my maternal grandparents and my husband’s grandmother. Following in the spiritual and creative footsteps of my ancestors I design innovative quilted art using contemporary fabrics and methods. My designs include art quilts, wearable art, handbags, jewelry, textile vases, and journal covers that are displayed in public and private interior spaces.
