Gabriel Guyer

Gabriel Guyer creates two-dimensional, mixed-media pieces that feature vibrant colors and hard edges. His work uses a mix of acrylic, ink, and pencil on wood and strives to find a middle ground between illustration, realism, the figurative and the abstract. Some of Guyer’s earliest memories include going into his mother’s studio and reproducing famous cartoons or creating elaborate space battles and fantasy adventures. Though he took some classes in high school and elsewhere, the majority of his training comes from books, practice, study, and collaboration. Throughout his lifetime, Guyer has been heavily influenced by traditional artists like Claude Monet and Salvador Dali, but other artists like M.C. Escher, Max Ernst, Audrey Kawasaki, Boris Vallejo, Vargas, Hokusai and innumerable Japanese animators have had an even greater effect on his style and technique.
