Greater Columbus Arts Council Posts 2019 Grants Guidelines
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) has released its 2019 guidelines for grants. The Arts Council offers financial support and resources to the city’s artists and arts organizations. The comprehensive grants guidelines (available online at gcac.org) detail available programs and services, how to apply for them and note changes for 2019.
“We are continuously listening so that we can serve more artists, arts organizations and neighborhoods,” said Tom Katzenmeyer, president and CEO of the Arts Council. “In 2018, through the addition of a more accessible Project Support grants and enhanced outreach, we saw a significant increase in the number of new organizations and artists receiving grants for the first time.”
The Arts Council continues to enact changes based on constituent feedback. For 2019 the Arts Council added a pilot program for bands and ensembles and the addition of a marketing grant available to individual artists residing in Columbus. Other changes are aimed at serving more artistic disciplines, reducing barriers for small organizations and continuing to ensure that public dollars are being invested in well-managed, sustainable and innovative organizations. In addition, the Arts Council is hosting several workshops, at various library locations, to go over the guidelines in person and answer questions.
Each year the Arts Council seeks constituent feedback to improve its processes, impact and alignment with community goals. Last year these efforts resulted in 19 new project support applicants and included events throughout neighborhoods in Columbus. 2018 Project Support recipients included such diverse applicants as Columbus Black International Film Festival, 934 Gallery in Milo Grogan, 2×2 Hip-Hop Festival in the Hilltop, the free Cultural Wall Music Festival connecting downtown and the King-Lincoln District and free Musica y Palabra presented by the Ohio Hispanic Fine Arts Association.
