Krystal the intern here, filling in for Lacey, who is brain-dead after four days of conferencing. And there is so much going on this weekend, you find y our head your head spinning too. So grab a pen and paper. I’ve got a few ideas to share.
Since there is so much to do, we’ll start with two recommendations for today with opening night of “the musical fairy tale,” Zanna, Don’t!, presented by Evolution Theatre and Which One’s Pink at Shadowbox Live.
After being extended by popular demand, this weekend is your last chance to see Which One’s Pink, a multimedia celebration of Pink Floyd considered “magical to see,” by The Columbus Dispatch.
On Friday, you can listen to Shane Mecklanberger talk about his exhibition of computer-simulated supernova explosions in The End & the Beginning of Everything as part of Columbus College of Art & Design’s Visiting Artists and Scholars program. If computer-generated art isn’t your thing you can go get your groove on with musical funk artist, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic at LC Pavilion. If neither of those strikes your fancy, check out day nine of the Columbus International Film and Video Festival (CIF+VF) short films from 7:30-10 p.m.
With coffee or tea in hand, start your Saturday by shopping at the alternative local craft fair, Craftin Outlaws at the Convention Center. To calm things down a bit, make your way to ProMusica’s performance of Brahms Symphony No. 4 to listen to some classical music, and If you didn’t see Zanna, Don’t! on Thursday or Friday, you might have time to squeeze in the 8 p.m. showing after the symphony.
Saturday also marks the closing night of the CIF+VF, with screenings of documentaries, films and the wrap party to end the festival with a bang!
Remember that pen and paper I told you grab? Sunday is where you’ll need them. In the afternoon, see the final performance of A Tribute to Joe Cocker at Shadowbox Live. If you want something the whole family can enjoy, Hollywood Festival: John Williams Spectacular, is a musical performance by the Columbus Symphony complete with movie scores that everyone will recognize and enjoy.
Sunday evening also has these options:
- Africa Roots & Culture Festival with Youssou N’Dour and Thiossane West African Drum and Dance at the LC Pavilion
- Opera on the Edge, an intro do opera from Opera Columbus and performed at Shadowbox Live
