I’ve got a problem (well, some would say more than one, but we’ll focus on the one that’s relevant). Baby Friday kicks off with two events that I really, really want to go to but they are scheduled at the same time.
First, the King Arts Complex is hosting a celebration of Aminah Robinson. Her artwork is like the most flavorful comfort food you can imagine. It feeds your soul and leaves you fulfilled and satisfied. When there’s a chance to honor her extraordinary life and legacy, I want to be there.
Also happening is the Downtown Live Concert Series featuring The Floorwalkers, Nick D. and the Believers, and Happy Chichester. I am a fairly new fan of The Floorwalkers, but I’ve been a Happy fan since his R.C. Mob days (side note: COTA should make “Get on the Bus” their official theme song).
I haven’t made a decision yet, but would appreciate it if anyone who goes to either of these events would tweet/post photos using #artmakescbus so I can vicariously enjoy anything I miss.
On Friday I’m finally going to experience the Kitchen. If you aren’t familiar, I’ll be helping to make a meal and then eat family style with a group of people I’ve never met while sampling Orin Swift wines. I’m a foodie who loves to cook, and in my world good food and wine are an art. I cannot wait to go play and then eat. As a foodie, I am intrigued by the Art Market Restaurant Week Inspires Delicious Art exhibition at Studios on High Gallery. Not only is it a great concept but select artists have committed to donating a percentage of their sales to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Art and philanthropy always pair well.
Saturday & Sunday the CAPA Summer Movie Series at the Ohio Theatre is bringing back another classic Grease. I recommend catching the movie Saturday and then walking over to the Moonlight Market for a delicious night of dining and shopping.
Sunday is a great day to take in a matinee at the theater. I recommend you try the newly opened The Temperamentals by Jon Marans presented by Evolution Theatre Company.
OK , it’s time to wrap up, but I’ve got a few shout outs to make.
First, there’s a new exhibition on the menu: Intersection: An Exhibition At Gallery 831 Featuring Work By Kelly Nye And Deanna Poelsma at Clayspace’s gallery 831. I’m a bit biased on this one. Deanna is a colleague as well as a talented artist, and I took a jewelry class taught by Kelly Nye who is both a gifted artist and instructor (plus a super cool woman).
Second, next Wednesday is another Thurber literary picnic. I had so much fun at the last one that I feel I owe it to you to recommend it—although the last one was so well attended I’m not sure how many more people they can fit on Thurber’s lawn.
And finally, LAST CALL to see Remnants. I LOVE this show. I’ve visited more than once and each time I see something new. When you go (when not if) also take some time to check out the Accessible Expressions Ohio exhibition that lines the hall that leads to the Urban Arts Space gallery. The work is impressive and worth your time.
OK I’ve got some difficult decisions to make.
