Almond Zigmund’s work sharpens our perceptions of space while exploring the nature of opposition. Combining crisp geometry, vivid color, and intricate patterns, her drawings, sculptures, and installations engage the eye and the body at once, offering generous amounts of visual stimulation while also inducing visceral reactions to the virtual and actual spaces she creates. Zigmund received her BFA from Parsons and her MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including shows in Zurich, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

One of the hallmarks of the Wexner Center’s program over the past 25 years is to not only introduce important innovators to our local audience, but to also highlight Columbus and Ohio State as the place where new talent and new work is first seen in this country. A case in point: this US premiere of Rising, the first solo program by British dance sensation Aakash Odedra.
In Rising, Odedra draws on his background in the classical Indian dance disciplines of Kathak and Bharatanatyam while remaining intrinsically contemporary in style and concept. Exploring different processes and aesthetics in the pieces created for Rising, Odedra highlights different aspects of himself to create a new personal language: lyrical and graceful, brutal and raw, edgy and animalistic. Join us for this highly anticipated performance, and see why critics have widely praised Odedra’s hypnotic energy and thrillingly virtuosic technique.

Artists’ Talk: Saturday, October 25, at 2:30 p.m.
ROY G BIV Gallery proudly presents Crystal Gregory and Luke Ahern. Gregory uses handmade lace to support and suspend cast concrete. Ahern combines diverse materials for his improvisational, abstract installations.
Crystal Gregory will exhibit How Many of Those Who Are Yoked Together Have Ever Seen Oxen, a suspended installation in which handmade laces support the weight of cast concrete tubes. The work inverts material stereotypes by using “delicate” material to support the weight of the concrete. Gregory finds a wonderful tension between the industrial patterns of the urban landscape and the structural pattern of torchon lace and how each defines and outlines negative space.
Luke Ahern’s abstract sculptures and installations are concerned with play. His working process is sporadic, nonlinear and improvisational, and his habits draw enormous influence from his practice as a musician. He uses diverse materials, from traditional oil paint, to artificial turf, to objects scavenged from waste bins. He sees his work as existing in a state of “not quite.” His installations are not quite objects, not quite complete, not quite monuments.
