Looking at an average weekend events calendar for Columbus leaves me feeling like a kid in a candy store—so many delicious choices.
Let’s start with Thursday, or as a friend of mine likes to call it “baby Friday.” This week we’ve got COSI After Dark. If you haven’t been, COSI sets aside one evening a month for the 21-and-over crowd to let our inner child out to play—with adult beverages, food, and no kids. This month’s featured event is “Top Secret Spy Craft.”
I recently got to preview this interactive exhibition and can tell you it is a blast. You can totally get your Agent Carter or (Jason Bourne) on and pick locks, break codes, and mission impossible your way through a room full of lasers. Personally I could have spent a day in the code room alone.
Looking for something a little more introspective? On Friday, the Columbus Museum of Art is opening powerful new exhibition, Fabric of Survival: The Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz. I heard about this exhibition the last time I was at the museum, and I can’t wait to see it. A Holocaust survivor, Krinitz used needle point to weave her story into impactful pieces of fiber art.

If your Friday needs something on the performance side there are plenty of options from “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at Curtain Players Theater to “American Idiot” at Shadow Box Live.
It’s officially spring. While Ohio springs may not be warm by some people’s standards, Columbusites are of hardy stock and after a LONG winter, we will be outside. You could start at Columbus College of Art & Design’s Spring Art Sale (always a fun, unique shopping excursion). Then, assuming shopping makes you hungry, hit one of the many local eateries in Downtown or Olde Town East.
After a leisurely lunch you may need a walk. Head over to Franklin Park Conservatory for “Blooms & Butterflies.” A quick bus or car ride will get you back downtown where you can visit the Riffe Gallery

before “A Century of Ohio Watercolor” closes. Walk a few blocks south from the Riffe to Urban Arts Space for the “Department of Design Spring Exhibition.”
Finally, it’s time for the Short North Gallery Hop, where everything good comes together—music, visual art, performers, and food.
