Tom Katzenmeyer
President and CEO
On April 1, 2013, Tom Katzenmeyer became President and CEO of the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council).
Prior to coming to the Arts Council, he served as Senior Vice President for University Communications at The Ohio State University, where he led an office that oversaw OSU’s university-wide communications and reputation management. The office included the units of Internal Communications, Marketing Communications, Media Relations, Research Communications, and WOSU Public Media.
Before joining Ohio State in 2008, Katzenmeyer was senior vice president of investor, media, and community relations for L Brands, Inc (NYSE: LTD). He was responsible for the company’s reputation and relationships with investors and analysts, local media, national business and trade press, and the nonprofit and philanthropic community.
Katzenmeyer previously served as executive assistant for legislative affairs to the Governor of Ohio for four years. His public service career spans nearly 15 years, including time on the staff of Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Department of Development.
Katzenmeyer serves on the boards of the Columbus Clippers, YMCA of Central Ohio, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and is a Trustee of the Crane Family Foundation at the Columbus Foundation, the board of Campus Partners for Urban Redevelopment, and on the advisory board of LiFE Sports. Currently, he is Chair of the Ohio Local News Initiative Board, a new nonprofit statewide network of local newsrooms, and is an original board member of RAPID 5, a vision for five amazing greenway corridors in central Ohio.
He is past Board Chair of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, YMCA of Central Ohio, Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation, Columbus Clippers, and Leadership Columbus.
He has led capital campaigns for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, the Grange Audubon Nature Center, and Stonewall Columbus. He has raised money for the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the YMCA, Leadership Columbus, and the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
He received the Distinguished Service Award from The Ohio State University in 2022, the 2021 Henry L. Hunker Urban Legacy Award, Columbus Landmarks Foundation; 2021 William R. Joseph Ohio Arts Advocacy Medal, Ohio Citizen’s for the Arts; 2019 CEO of the Year Award (large nonprofit) from Columbus CEO Magazine; 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award and 2018 Most Admired Executive Award from Columbus Business First; the 2017 Forte Award from the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus, and the 2010 Judge’s Award in support of Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Campaign to Sustain, Association of Fundraising Professionals
Katzenmeyer has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University.
