    Film Columbus – Teen Screenwriting Workshop and Competition with CCAD

    *** TEENS 17 AND UNDER MUST HAVE A SIGNED RELEASE FORM from a parent or guardian to participate. Download release form HERE.

    Are you a local teen who loves movies? Learn how to write a screenplay with Film Columbus and Columbus College of Art & Design!

    The 2024 Film Columbus Teen Screenwriting Competition is a free, two-part screenwriting workshop for teens ages 13-18 with CCAD’s Chair of Film & Video Kingsley Nyarko. The workshops and competition are FREE for teens in Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Madison and Union counties.

    The first workshop covers the basics, from plot to protagonists, followed by a big homework assignment: writing a screenplay.

    The second workshop gives students a chance to receive feedback on their work and hear from their peers and the instructor.

    After the workshops, students are encouraged to submit a 5-7 page script. Industry professionals will judge the scripts and select 2-3 winners, whose screenplays will be made into short films by CCAD students. These films will premiere publicly, and you’ll be invited!

    Lunch will be provided free of charge, thanks to Donatos Pizza!


    Teens will have flexibility in attending the workshops. Students are required to attend two sessions in order to submit a script and enter the competition. Each session has two open time slots.

    *** For session one, teens can attend either Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm or Saturday, April 20, from 1:00-4:00 pm.

    *** For session two, teens can select from Saturday, April 27, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm or Saturday, May 4, from 1:00-4:00 pm.



    Locations for the workshops are conveniently located downtown at the CCAD campus and close to buslines. Registration is required to attend and to enter the competition.

    This virtual workshop provides information on our new program, Artist Projects. This competitive grant provides financial support for artist creation in all disciplines and brings original, artist-led projects to life. Open to individual artists, or groups of artists, with residency in Franklin County or a bordering county. Projects must demonstrate payment to artists involved and have a defined end result that allow the public to experience the art created. Examples of a defined end result include performances, exhibitions, installations, festivals, locally-produced films/tv series, published works, recordings, art experiences, and community events where the arts are at the core.

    2024 Mural Assistance for Artists

    This workshop will provide information on the 2024 Mural Assistance for Artists program. The Mural Assistance grant is designed for Franklin County artists that will engage with organizations, businesses or facilities on an exterior mural project. This grant is competitive and provides partial funding for the creation of a mural. A specific wall must be defined, and there should be a written contract between the artist(s) and commissioning entity, with secured additional funding of $500.00 minimum. (Mural Assistance for Organizations is not available for 2024. Organizations are welcome to attend the workshop but must work with an individual artist who will be responsible for the application and payments.)
