Purpose:
Created and underwritten by the Columbus Museum of Art, the Aminah Robinson Writer/Scholar/Researcher Program (“Writer Residency”) celebrates the legacy of the late Columbus artist and writer and provides a U.S.-based African American writer, scholar or researcher with a residency in the late artist’s Columbus, Ohio home studio. Residents will have the gift of uninterrupted time to work on projects of their choice in a setting that was the heart of Aminah’s creative process for more than 40 years.
This Grant is open to:
A U.S.-based African American writer, scholar or researcher.

$15,000
Evaluation / Next Steps:
Writer Residency applications are reviewed by a selection jury. The jury will review the applicant’s excellence and proficiency, innovation and creativity, use of storytelling, and connection to cultural traditions and heritage and consider the applicant’s connection to or reflection of the aesthetic and spirit of Aminah Robinson.

The Aminah Robinson Fellowship (Aminah Fellowship) celebrates the legacy of the late Columbus artist by recognizing the exemplary work of a local African American visual artist.
This Grant is open to:
A professional African American visual artist residing in Franklin County.
Award Amount:
$15,000
Evaluation / Next Steps:
Aminah Fellowship applications are reviewed by a selection jury that will include representatives from the Shepard or Poindexter neighborhoods where Aminah lived, the Columbus Museum of Art, GCAC, and renowned Ohio artists, curators, and/or arts educators familiar with Aminah’s work, aesthetic, and history.

Purpose:
The Artists Elevated award recognizes individual artists by investing in their creativity and artistic vision through an unrestricted $25,000 cash award.
This Grant is open to:
Columbus-based artists who have been working professionally for at least three years
Award Amount:
$25,000
Evaluation / Next Steps:
Artists Elevated applications are reviewed by a jury panel of seven national experts for each artistic discipline (Dance, Fashion, Film, Literary, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts). The panel will select up to seven finalists and seven award recipients. Following a decision by the jury panel, applicants will be notified by email of the determination.

2024 Aminah Robinson Artist Residency

Purpose:
The Aminah Robinson Artist Residency (Aminah Artist Residency) celebrates the legacy of the late Columbus artist and provides a U.S. based African American visual artist a 90-day residency in the Columbus, Ohio home studio of the late Aminah Robinson.
This Grant is open to:
U.S.-based professional African American visual artists. This residency is NOT open to residents of Franklin County/Greater Columbus. The Aminah Robinson Fellowship was established separately to serve artists local to Columbus.

$15,000
Evaluation / Next Steps:
Aminah Artist Residency applications are reviewed by a selection jury that will review the applicants’ artistic excellence and technical proficiency, innovative use of medium, and use of storytelling and connection to cultural traditions and heritage. The selection jury will also consider the applicants’ connection to or reflection of the aesthetic and spirit of Aminah Robinson.

Support artist creation in all disciplines and bring original, artist-led projects to life.
This Grant is open to:
Individual artists and groups of artists (one person will apply on behalf of group).
Award Amount:
$5,000 - $10,000 (multiple awards given); up to 8 filmmakers are eligible for up to $25,000.
Evaluation / Next Steps:
Scored, competitive grant. Applications for this program will be reviewed and evaluated by the public as part of a community grantmaking process. The GCAC Board of Trustees will make final approvals.
