The Arts Committee of the German Village Society is pleased to announce its 2024
Juried Exhibition Call-for-Entries at Fest Hall Gallery located on the second floor of the German Village Society (GVS) Meeting Haus & Visitor Center. This year's Juried Exhibition will be in tandem with the inaugural On The Bricks Festival that is a one-day visual arts and music festival, free to the public, on Saturday, August 24th Noon to 6PM.

This year's call has a small entry fee which will provide an honorarium for The Committee's Select Award for the piece of artwork the Arts Committee considers an outstanding display of artistic efforts and craft.
Artists that are interested in also being considered as a booth vendor during the On The Bricks Festival should pay the the entry fee indicated for the booth submission form (link located further down in the form).

The 2024 Juried Exhibition will have an invite-only VIP reception on Friday, August 23rd (more details to come!) and will open to the public at Noon on August 24, 2024 and remain on display through Fri., September 20th.

The Call is open to all 2-D working artists with ready-to-hang works of art at the time of submission; Artists do not need to be a member of the German Village Society, though the opportunity is encouraged and supports historic preservation.

ROY G BIV Gallery invites you to apply to exhibit work in ImageOHIO, an annual juried exhibition of compelling lens-based art by emerging artists working in the Ohio region. Lens-based work can include photography, new media, film, and video. The invited artists’ work will be exhibited at ROY G BIV Gallery in Columbus’ Franklinton arts district from October 11 – November 1, 2024.

ROY G BIV’s highest priority is to support emerging artists. We define emerging artists as those who are early in their careers, do not have gallery representation, and have yet to be substantially celebrated within their field, by the media, by funding organizations, or the public at large. We expect artists exhibiting at ROY G BIV to be actively creating new work, and to have a focused direction and goals while developing their artistic voice and vision.

This year’s ImageOHIO is a satellite program of FotoFocus, a Cincinnati-based biennial celebration of photography, film, and lens-based art. Now in its seventh iteration, the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial encompasses 107 projects at 86 participating venues across Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky, making it the largest biennial of its kind in the United States. The 2024 Biennial theme backstories focuses on stories that are not evident at first glance. These stories offer context for what happened previously or out of view, providing narratives not yet told or presented from a new perspective. Yet once told, they shed light on current circumstances and events.

In response, ROY G BIV presents the ImageOHIO 2024 theme undercurrents. This prompt asks Ohio artists to bring their perspectives to the fore as they delve into their own unique experiences, unearthing history or histories that have helped shape them as artists. We offer three questions for thought and response:

1. Why do you use lens-based media?
2. What is hidden in your work?
3. What are the unforeseen and/or subterranean connections that unite Ohio lens-based creatives?

What boundaries will you push? What unique perspective will you share? Join us in the Open Theme Online Art Competition and showcase your talent to the world! Friends of Goodale Park, the non-profit organization that provides stewardship for the park, is inviting local artists to enter the first ever show of art reflecting the beauty of the park. The work can range from photography to watercolor to painting and more. The creation of Portable Cultural Planning Studios is the commission of new work. The vast geography of our rural service area demands that we practice creative placemaking by bringing the arts into the neighborhoods of the communities we serve. The Portable Cultural Planning Studios will be designed and fabricated in collaboration and oversight by the communities we serve in ways that reflect the community's landscape and industry. The studios will be used by artist facilitators to create creative planning activities to support our engagement in small communities where we don’t have centers. At the completion of the project, the portable arts installation will be unveiled at a public celebration. After our engagement portion, the studios will become a portable arts installation that can be borrowed by organizations providing arts activities in the county. Artists are welcome to submit proposal for each location. However, each county has its own selection committee; there is no guarantee that artists with submissions for multiple locations will be selected for more than one location.

Born from a desire to carve out more space and freedom for the creative process, Elbow Room is a six-week artist-in-residence opportunity for Columbus-based dance artists happening September 2nd, 2024 through October 19th, 2024.

The selected artist will develop an original work of 20 minutes or longer for performance at Columbus Dance Theatre (CDT) with an artist fee of $2000, six weeks of studio space (6 hours per week), and a $1,500 stipend for the associated costs of making a dance work such as dancer/collaborator fees, costumes, props, or music licensing. Artists will also receive full production support by way of professional lighting, sound, and videography.

Our Residency artist will have additional opportunities to share their creative process with the community via a series of movement “labs” hosted by the Columbus Community Dance Class series.

The 15th edition of the Prisma Art Prize is now accepting entries. As an international platform, we aim to showcase a diverse and inclusive array of paintings, drawings, and engravings, reflecting the myriad possibilities of these mediums. Our goal is to act as a prism that reveals the spectrum of artistic expression.

Executive Director, Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society

The Ohio State University’s motto, “disciplina in civitatem” or “education for citizenship,” is not merely a slogan; it’s an exhortation to remain focused on the responsibility to develop an informed, engaged, and civic-minded citizenry. It is essential to fulfilling Ohio State’s land-grant mission.

In July 2023, the Ohio General Assembly created and provided $10 million in initial funding to support the Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society (Chase Center) at the University, which offers the University the opportunity to advance this imperative on a national scale. The University, through a seven-member academic council of eminent scholars appointed by the Board of Trustees and confirmed by the Ohio Senate, is now conducting a nationwide search for the center’s inaugural Executive Director.

The Executive Director, who will report directly to the University’s Provost, will have a unique and powerful opportunity to define the center’s vision, appoint at least 15 tenure-track scholars to realize that vision, and oversee the development of curriculum in accordance with the statutory mission to “conduct teaching and research in the historical ideas, traditions, and texts that have shaped the American constitutional order and society.”

The Chase Center’s initial academic focus will be on developing a curriculum focused on undergraduate education for citizenship and civic leadership, which will enable students to both understand the foundational principles of American society and identify when and how to apply, reinforce, and advance those principles to address present and future challenges. The enacting legislation further provides that the Chase Center must “educate students by means of free, open, and rigorous intellectual inquiry to seek the truth”; provide them with the tools necessary “to reach their own informed conclusions on matters of social and political importance”; promote intellectual diversity; and “create a community dedicated to an ethic of civil and free inquiry.”

In addition to holding this administrative role, the Executive Director will be a faculty member with tenure or tenure eligibility. The Executive Director will directly hire and manage faculty members and additional staff as appropriate, oversee the development and implementation of curriculum offered at the center, and create a variety of innovative educational and collaboration opportunities for students and faculty from across the university. The Chase Center will be an independent academic center, but will be initially physically housed in the University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

Ultimately, as the Chase Center develops with the support of the Board of Trustees and senior university leadership, the Executive Director must prioritize, first and foremost, the development of an academic unit of the highest caliber, one that advances the University’s reputation for excellence and its mission of promoting education for citizenship. The goal is clear: a program of excellence that will prepare students to serve as thought leaders in addressing the multi-faceted issues they will face upon graduation.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director will be responsible for:

Overseeing the creation and establishment of the Chase Center
Managing the recruitment, hiring, appointment, onboarding, and ongoing supervision of at least 15 tenure-track faculty members and additional staff who will work in the center, as well as facilitating joint appointments with other departments at the University as appropriate
Developing and promoting the curriculum, programming, and other activities of the center
Building relationships with key internal and external interested parties regarding center operations
Consulting with the seven-member academic council appointed by the Board of Trustees and confirmed by the Ohio Senate as appropriate in realizing the center’s vision
Developing, updating, and adhering to a budget for center operations
Serving as a faculty member and meeting all faculty obligations
Providing an annual report on the center’s development and operations to the Board of Trustees and Ohio General Assembly

Open Door Art Studio is hiring! We are looking for a creative and motivated person with an affinity for the arts! Join Open Door Art Studio & Gallery as a Program Coordinator and Inspire the Creative Journeys of the artists we support!

The Grant and Contracts Senior Specialist will understand the mission, needs and value proposition of the university and the Wexner Center for the Arts to support efforts to increase philanthropic support for the Wex. The position is focused on grants and proposals for foundations and government funders. Additional duties include generating stewardship pieces and grant reports, as well as occasionally stewarding funders in person and online. The position also entails conducting research; collaborating with colleagues across the Wex; and compiling and presenting data to enhance grants, proposals, and other pieces. The Specilist will support life-cycle grant management operations at both the Wexner Center for the Arts at the Ohio State University, as well as the Wexner Center Foundation, a 501c3 university affiliated entity which exists to further the financial and nonfinancial interest of the Wexner Center for the Arts. Duties include all aspects of the grant proposal and stewardship process; responding to feedback from grantors; crafting and/or amending budgets, working with finance teams at both entities as well as programmers during grant execution; and proper grant closeout procedures. Duties will include reporting requirements for federal, state, local, and private grantor organizations. Successful candidate will be responsible for increasing grant dollars received and meeting established budgetary metrics in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Advancement.

As a key member of the team, the Donor Relations Officer helps to identify and implement strategies for expanding the philanthropic growth of the Ohio History Connection. The primary responsibility of the Donor Relations Officer is to develop, build and manage a major gifts portfolio based upon connecting donors' interests, passions and values with Ohio History Connection's mission. Reports directly to the Donor Relations Manager and works with the entire Development Division who jointly pursue teamwork and the sharing of authority and responsibility.

As a key member of the team, the Development Officer - World Heritage Program develops, cultivates, and solicits specifically for Ohio History Connection's World Heritage program. In September 2023, the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks (www.hopewellearthworks.org) in Ohio were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list after many years of continuous work. This position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and works with the Executive Team, Historic Sites Team, Board of Trustees and staff to define and realize the program's direction and philanthropic direction. We acknowledge the incredible work of our State Arts Agencies, as well as First Peoples Fund, McKnight Culture Bearers Fellowship, and Tending to the Taproot. Their efforts have inspired this program and highlighted the need to support honor culture bearers and practitioners.

The Salt Lick Incubator is a nonprofit organization that supports emerging musicians on their path to sustainable careers. Our project grants range from $5,000 to $15,000 and are awarded to musicians performing in songful, contemporary genres to use for projects such as producing a song or album, producing a music video, developing social media assets, pressing vinyl, touring, or developing branding and marketing assets and strategies.
Grant recipients receive guidance from industry professionals.

Through fellowships to published translators, the National Endowment for the Arts supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English.
