Call for Proposals for Gallery Of Echoes: Columbus Public Art

in Press Releases May 4, 2015 2 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and Shadowbox Live are soliciting proposals from interested and qualified visual artists to participate in Shadowbox Live’s next installment of Gallery of Echoes to be performed at the 2016 Columbus Arts Festival.

In 2014, Shadowbox Live premiered Gallery of Echoes: The CMA Experience, a unique production featuring original music inspired by 21 pieces of art from the Columbus Museum of Art’s permanent collection. Spoken word, original dance, and immersive video of the artwork completed a multimedia celebration that bridged the gap between visual and performance art. Gallery of Echoes garnered critical acclaim, including the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Arts Excellence Award.

“The first Gallery of Echoes was extraordinarily moving,” says Stev Guyer, Executive Producer for Shadowbox Live.  “The comment we received most often was how it made the audience experience art in an entirely new way. It made the artwork accessible to the layman and showed something new to the art aficionados.”

Now the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Shadowbox Live are partnering to create an all new production, Gallery of Echoes: ColumbUs, and are seeking local artists to produce temporary pieces of indoor or outdoor public artwork to be used as inspiration for the performance. Artist are invited to submit proposals in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to 2D, 3D, craft and photography.  A total of 20 art pieces will be selected or commissioned. Artists will receive an honorarium of $500 per selected proposal.

Submissions are open to artists, working in all media, who reside in Franklin County or are employed within the City of Columbus corporate limits. Artists submitting should be prepared to provide proof of Franklin County residency or Columbus employment upon request. Students are welcome to participate. More information and the full call is available online at http://www.gcac.org/grants-services/public-art/ under Open Calls.

Questions about submissions should be directed to Ruby Harper, Grants & Services director at (614) 221-8406 or rharper@gcac.org.
