COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus Dance Theatre (CDT), in partnership with the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council), presents the 2019 Columbus Dances Fellowship. Fellowships in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded to five choreographers whose work will be presented in Columbus Dance Theatre’s annual community dance concert, Columbus Dances. Participating choreographers will create new works, using dancers from the greater Columbus community for fellowship consideration. Successful applicants will have their works produced by CDT in its home performance space, The Fisher Theatre, located at 592 E. Main St., for a weekend of open public performances.
Procedures: An open adjudication will be held with three adjudicators. Adjudicators will be recognized leaders in the arts community. This panel will make award determinations. Choreographers will create new, original dances of 7-15 minutes in length, of any style of dance. Dances can be solo or group works. Five choreographers will be chosen by the panel to participate in a weekend of concerts at Columbus Dance Theatre. Choreographers must reside in Franklin County, be at least 18 years of age and cannot currently be in a degree-granting program to be eligible for consideration. Applicants will register by calling CDT at (614) 849-0227 or emailing columbusdancetheatre.info@gmail.com, by Jan. 5, 2019. The adjudication will occur at CDT on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 beginning at 2 p.m. Choreographers should show at least three minutes of work in progress at the time of the adjudication. Finished dances may be shown, but they must not have been previously produced in another venue.
Awards: Five choreographers will each be awarded fellowships of $2,000. Choreographers will determine the use of these funds at their discretion. Choreographers will be granted rehearsal space at CDT for the six-week period prior to the presentation of Columbus Dances.
