Columbus, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council awarded 16 community organizations a total of $18,600 during the second round of the 2010 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program, GCAC announced today.
The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program supports neighborhood and community groups with public arts projects in all disciplines. Projects that actively provide access to the arts for people of all cultural backgrounds, economic status, sexual orientation, age and physical ability receive priority consideration.
Grants will go to projects such as a series of creative art classes for LGBT youth through Kaleidoscope Youth Coalition; a beautification project for the Horn of Africa community garden by the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association; and the Ohio Brass Arts Festival, an annual event for area brass and percussion groups to showcase their musicianship and diverse repertoire.
The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program is funded by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and is supported by a donation from Ashland, Inc. Each year, GCAC awards three rounds of grants as part of the program. To date in 2010 GCAC has awarded $32,800 to 26 organizations.

The deadline for the next round of 2010 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts grants is Friday, October 29.
GCAC will hold two workshops to help organizations with their applications. The first will be from 2 – 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave., and the second will be from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at GCAC’s offices, 100 E. Broad St. Suite 2250.
