COLUMBUS, Ohio — Can’t Stop Columbus (CSC) in partnership with the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Dublin Arts Council announce that for the final three weeks of October residents can send a free concert performed by a local musician to someone who went above and beyond to help others in 2020. The Heroes edition of Curbside Concerts will kick off Friday, Oct. 16 with performances in conjunction with The Columbus Foundation’s Big Table event.
People can make a nomination for a Hero in 2020 to receive a free special concert performed by a local musician from the curbside of their home by submitting a request form at sendaconcert.com. Concerts will be performed Friday–Sunday through the end of October. Recipients will be selected based on the geographic proximity to other concerts and the meaning behind the request.
Curbside Concerts is a project by Can’t Stop Columbus that has raised money to pay local musicians to perform nearly 700 requested concerts across central Ohio for seniors in social isolation from the coronavirus. The concerts have provided more than 50 performers nearly $25,000 in income since March, and have created moments of connection without breaking social distancing for families and friends across the city through the power of music. In the final weeks of good weather, the series will be shifting its audience to the Heroes of 2020: essential workers, healthcare professionals, first responders, small business owners, teachers, seniors in social isolation, community organizers, caretakers and everyday people who have gone above and beyond for someone else.
“We want to help our community members lift each other up in this continually difficult year by providing a service that brings kindness and connection to those who need it most,” said Jordan Davis, co-organizer of Can’t Stop Columbus. “For six months we have brought music and love to nearly 700 seniors and their families. There is no better way to conclude this project than to thank those who have been taking care of all of us.”
The performances in the final weeks of October are made possible with funding from Facebook and Dublin Arts Council, with additional support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Trucks are provided by Germain Automotive Partnership, and organized through volunteers of Can’t Stop Columbus.
