COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) is proud to partner with ArtPop Street Gallery, Lamar Outdoor, City Solutions and the Art Makes Columbus/Columbus Makes Art campaign to present the third-annual ArtPop street gallery. ArtPop Cbus shines the spotlight on Columbus’ talented artists by placing their work on available billboards throughout Franklin County, as well as City Solutions news racks, beginning in late April.

Five artists were selected from 43 applications:

Charlotte Belland (43235) is an associate professor and chair of animation at Columbus College of Art & Design. Her artistic practice focuses on capturing the immediacy of animal movement with ink drawings. Belland graduated with a master of fine arts degree in computer animation from The Ohio State University. Part of her creative habit is to post a daily animal drawing to Instagram. Her ArtPop submission, Dogs of Columbus, “celebrates a diverse collection of our local canine ambassadors who share their daily adventures via Instagram.”

Ty P. Carroll (43016) earned a bachelor of fine arts at The Ohio State University in art and technology with an emphasis on computer information science. His artistic style combines traditional skills of drawing and painting with digital manipulation to create a new hybrid art form he has termed “glitch drawing.” His ArtPop submission Chief Blue Jacket features the Shawnee War Chief, Wayapiersenwah, nicknamed Blue Jacket, predecessor of the famous Shawnee leader Tecumseh.

Larry Hamill (43206) developed a full-time career in photography after receiving a bachelor of fine arts in painting and drawing from The Ohio State University. He has over 40 years’ experience shooting aerial, corporate and industrial photographs, including work for Battelle Memorial Institute, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Kenyon College and Columbus State Community College. His ArtPop photo is titled Bhutanese Dance; Hamill says, “Columbus, Ohio has the largest population of Bhutanese in the United States. This photograph was taken at 4000th of a second of a dynamic traditional Bhutanese dance.”

Alissa Renzetti (43231) is a self-taught surrealist artist who combines her love of painting, sculpture and sewing into playful figures also known as art dolls. She has won awards for her quirky characters at the Westerville Arts Festival, Easton Art Affair and the Columbus Arts Festival. Renzetti is also a resident artist at 3060 Artworks. About her untitled ArtPop image, Renzetti says, “Each of my figures have been sculpted, painted and sewn with the hopes of evoking a connection to the viewer. My goal is for art dolls to be recognized, appreciated and categorized as fine art.”

Kim Rohrs (43209) is a mixed media artist working with acrylic, resin and watercolors. She is inspired by microscope slides, cycles found in nature, repetition, pattern, living mindfully, Jungian theory, collections of small objects and dreams. Rohrs earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree at Naropa University, both in art therapy. About her ArtPop submission, titled Horizon, she says, “At times obsessively painted and at other times concealed or muted, the cellular form drives my paintings and allows me to explore themes through this most basic representation. I enjoy giving attention to the many parts that make a whole.”
