Columbus, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council, along with partner TRANSIT ARTS, will receive $10,275 from the Ohio Arts Council to fund the continuation of out-of-school arts programs TRANSIT ARTS and GCAC’s Art in the House. GCAC and TRANSIT ARTS will match the grant, provided through the OAC’s Arts Learning/Arts Partnership grant program.
Art in the House and TRANSIT ARTS, partnering with the Columbus Federation of Settlements, provide students ages 5-19 with a comprehensive network of opportunities to pursue creative thinking, leadership and lifelong learning through the arts. The free public programming gives students access to resources, instruction and inspiration as well as summer job and internship opportunities. Art in the House focuses on children ages 5-11, and TRANSIT ARTS is for teens and young adults.
TRANSIT ARTS and Art in the House receive financial assistance from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, American Electric Power, Honda of America, the Columbus Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, GCAC, the Reinberger Foundation, United Way of Central Ohio and the Columbus Federation of Settlements.
“We are grateful to the Ohio Arts Council and all our funding partners for helping to make these programs a success,” said GCAC Community Arts Education Director Tim Katz. “Children who have the chance to make art with talented teaching artists and opportunities to exhibit or perform their work publicly learn about themselves and the world around them in a way that changes their lives for the better.”
Art in the House and TRANSIT ARTS also facilitate partnerships with other community groups, Katz said. An upcoming exhibition at the MAP Furniture Bank, Blue in Bloom, will showcase work made by children participating in the Art in the House program at Gladden Community Center. GCAC will host a reception at 2 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 19 at MAP Furniture Bank, 118 S. Yale Ave., to open the exhibition.
The OAC’s Arts Learning/Arts Partnership program is designed to provide a flexible source of support for arts learning projects that address the needs of individual learners and their communities, particularly underserved populations.
