GCAC’S FRANKLIN COUNTY NEIGHBORHOOD ARTS PROGRAM GRANTS $8,152 TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ten community organizations, including the East Asian Studies Center at OSU, Huckleberry House, Westerville Symphony at Otterbein College and more, received a total of $8,152 in grants for the first round of Greater Columbus Arts Council’s 2012 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program, GCAC announced today. The grant program is extremely competitive. Nineteen applications were received requesting $33,297.

The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program supports neighborhood and community groups, including both avocational and professional arts organizations, civic and neighborhood associations, guilds, social service organizations, youth centered and cultural organizations with public arts projects in all disciplines. Programming that actively provides access to the arts for people of all cultural backgrounds, economic status, sexual orientation, age and physical ability receives priority consideration.

The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program is financially assisted by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and the American Electric Power Foundation.

Examples of projects from the first round of grants for 2012 include ALTernative’s Ohio Bird Mural to be displayed in the Glen Echo Ravine; summer concert series programming through the Hilliard Arts Council; and an annual gospel festival to take place at the Columbus Santa Maria downtown.

Three rounds of FCNA grants will be awarded in 2012. The total program budget for 2012 is $20,000.

The deadline for the second round of 2012 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts grants is Thursday, May 31. GCAC will hold workshops to help organizations with their applications from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at theKing Arts Complex, Room 210, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave., and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at GCAC’s offices, 100 E.
