Columbus, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) recently selected two artists to receive international artist residencies in Dresden, Germany on behalf of the Arts Council’s Artist Exchange Program. The 2015 Artist Exchange Program recipients are Andrew McCauley and Robert Metzger.
Andrew McCauley works as the coordinator of digital drawing and visiting lecturer/full-time faculty at the Columbus College of Art & Design. McCauley has presented at international and national conferences including the University of Vaasa, Finland and the SECAC Conference. His work has been included in Art for Life’s Biennial Live Art Auction, selected works in The Art House 2014, and is part of the Ball State University Museum’s Private Collection. Represented by the Angela Meleca Gallery, McCauley continues to exhibit in national juried exhibitions and is involved extensively with developmental organizations like the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He received his BFA from Ball State University and was awarded his MFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design.
Robert Metzger’s focus on photography samples an array of original source images that are self-appropriated, and abstracted further into amorphous landscapes. For more than 20 years he has created and exhibited in galleries, museums, and private collections – both here and abroad. His work has achieved numerous grants and awards including Individual Artist Fellowships from the Arts Council in 2011 and 2002, and from the Ohio Arts Council, in 1990 and 2002. Metzger’s history in the public arts community encompasses curatorial experience, administration, and development with profit and non-profit environments and institutions.
The Arts Council, in conjunction with the Saxon State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Fine Arts, has been providing Columbus artists the opportunity to experience a residency in Dresden since 1994. Recipients of a Visual Arts Fellowship, Media Arts Fellowship and eligible finalists are invited to apply for the Artist Exchange Program. The artists will travel to Dresden sometime between March 1 and November 30, for residencies lasting 60 to 90 days.
The Artist Exchange Program provides an extended period of time for artists to concentrate on research and production so that their artwork benefits significantly. Various work and research facilities are made available to the artists. The Arts Council also supports the artists by providing living quarters, a monthly stipend, travel accommodations, and fosters a relationship between the artists and the Saxon State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Fine Arts. While in Dresden, the artists act as representatives for the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the city of Columbus.
