COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has awarded 15 grants for the first round of its Mural Assistance program in 2024. Each of the grantees will receive $5,000 for their projects.
Mural Assistance grants are designed to provide partial funding for the creation of exterior murals where a specific wall is identified, there is a written contract between artist(s) and commissioning organization, and additional funding has been pledged or secured.
“Managing the Mural Assistance for Artists program has been an incredibly fulfilling introduction to my role here at GCAC,” said Khaila Carr, grants and community engagement coordinator. “Choosing who to award presented its challenges – such a wide array of ideas and talented artists to pick from – but the guidance from our dedicated jury members got us through. I’m really looking forward to seeing these murals come to life in the streets of Columbus within the upcoming year.”

- Dane Khy (he/him)

- Roa (he/him)
- Giovanni Santiago (he/him)
- Leah Seaman (she/her)
- Nick Stull (he/him)
- April Sunami (she/her)
- Zach Van Horn (he/him)
The supported murals must be completed within a year after the award. Jurors for the grants included national mural experts and GCAC board members:
- Robin Davis (she/her), Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Ginther, GCAC board member
- Jason Naylor (he/him), Brooklyn-based artist, designer and creative director
- Christopher Martin (him/him), Oakland-based artist working in tapestry, installation, tattoos
- Marshall Shorts (he/him), creative director and founder of Artfluential, GCAC board member
- Kah Yangni (they/them), Philadelphia-based illustrator
- Lauren YS (they/them), artist and muralist based in Los Angeles
“I left the process super juiced up and inspired by all the things these folks are making,” said Yangni. “Thank you for allowing me to take part!”
Due to demand on the program, a second round of Mural Assistance grants will open in the fall and focus on locations outside of downtown Columbus, and be available only to artists residing in Franklin County. Murals must be located in Franklin County as well.
