Greater Columbus Arts Council Awards First Quarter Project Support, Community Impact, Boost and Artists In The Community Grants

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Greater Columbus Arts Council board of trustees approved 13 grants totaling $158,141 for the first round of Project Support grants in 2015. Additionally the Board approved one Community Impact grant totaling $3,580, five BOOST grants totaling $46,900 and 15 Artists in the Community grants totaling $10,597. Various performances and festivals will occur throughout Columbus featuring organizations such as The Asian Festival at the Franklin Park Conservatory May 23-24, Capriccio Vocal Ensemble presenting the seldom heard Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Songs” at Beechwold Christian Church June 13-14 and the free arts and music festival Summer Jam Westgate, held at Westgate Park on July 11. PROJECT SUPPORT Project Support grants provide funding for the numerous short-term cultural activities that give Columbus its vitality. This quarterly cycle, grantees will serve more than 268,000 audience members and will support approximately 1,041 artists. COMMUNITY IMPACT Community Impact grants provide funding to support long-term, sustainable projects or activity by arts and culture organizations and/or non-traditional arts and culture organizations that are intended to affect the economic development and growth in the targeted geographic areas. BOOST BOOST (Broadening Organization’s Overall Skills and Technology) is a capacity-building program supporting the governance, leadership, technology and professional development needs of not-for-profit arts organizations. Applicants are encouraged to make a long-term commitment to continuous improvement and to develop skills that result in benefits not only to the organization, but to the larger arts community. ARTISTS IN THE COMMUNITY Support for artists is provided through Professional Development Assistance, Supply Grants and Performing Artist Travel Grants. These support programs give artists in the community the opportunity to enhance their skills and create work that helps drive the vibrancy of the arts in Columbus and Franklin County.
