ARTIST STATEMENT

Hope comes from the fire of growth which is fueled by relentless change and the unknown. Feelings overwhelm and can feel like fire, consuming us and stealing our oxygen. Coming out of the flames intact is what hope does like a Phoenix from the ashes, hope is having the faith that things can change and get better.

ARTIST BIO

AJ Heckman is a Columbus based artist who works as a special needs early childhood arts educator. His painting practice is an integral part of his keeping healthy and managing his Bipolar, post cancer and PTSD symptoms. Fascinated by paint and abstraction, AJ is interested in how art reflects our mind and emotions, and how that reflection can be used to grow and develop our higher selves.
