ARTIST BIO

MJ Cooper is an African American artist based in Columbus Ohio. When she caught meningitis as a child it was a traumatic experience that spurred her to create art as a way to cope with the side effects of the illness. When she recovered she used art as a way to express the emotions she had while experiencing the side effects like chronic migraines, and chronic pain. The first paintings created after recovering were acrylic explorations into what the auras she would see during a migraine, and now that she is even better she uses oil paint. She now attends Columbus College of Art and Design.
